PRESERVE YOUR LAND
Preserve the beauty of your land forever
 through a Conservation Easement

Yolo Land Trust works with landowners interested in protecting their land from development. To accomplish this, Yolo Land Trust can either purchase the property outright or buy only the development rights. Donations of properties and easements are also welcome for consideration. Typically, though, Yolo Land Trust will purchase the development rights by entering into a conservation agreement with the landowner.

These conservation agreements are also called conservation easements, which restrict the uses of a property as needed to protect the land’s conservation values.

Why should you consider a Conservation Easement for your property?

  • You are the owner and steward of your land and you want to preserve your land for future generations.

  • You have built your legacy in a place you cherish and you do not want it to be subdivided and developed.

  • You love Yolo County and you want to help preserve its rural and agricultural character.

  • A Conservation Easement can provide you with:

    • Significant income tax reductions.

    • Significant estate tax credits.

    • Peace of mind that your property will be preserved and used the way you wish for all time.

The Role of the Land Trust after a Conservation Easement is Recorded

  • Monitor the property to ensure that your wishes for the land are forever fulfilled.
